Last reattach the vinyl siding. To seal the edge of a siding panel where it has been cut and to secure it to the wall you can use under sill trim. Push up gently until you hear a click. Nail in the center of the nailing slots.

Screws must be centered in the slot with approximately 1 32 0 8mm space between the screw head and the vinyl. In the case of installing a downspout onto vinyl siding a metal screw is used to secure it to the house. Once it is in place test by sliding the last piece back and forth slightly. Keep ends of adjoining starter strips at least 1 4 inch apart to allow for expansion.

Over time vinyl siding panels can become loose. When installing the starter strips allow a 1 8 inch space for corner posts and j channels for expansion. Be sure to leave about 1 8 of the nail exposed to allow the siding to flex during warmer or colder weather. This can cause panels to chip or crack if left unattended.

Secure the panels with a nail every 16 inches 40 6 cm or so remembering to center the nail in slot and leave 1 16 of the nail head above the vinyl siding to allow for movement and expansion. By using a vinyl siding removal tool you can guide loose panels back into place. After you get the siding loosened reattach the corner piece. Be sure the top and bottom click into place.

Screw fasteners can be used if the screws do not restrict the normal expansion and contraction movement of the vinyl siding panel on the wall.
