Just started my hc carpet 1 5week ago going to complete the emerse to submerge stage.
Hc carpet emersed.
Hey all the title says it all.
17 days from planting three small 4x4cm pots of hc.
Light will be medium high.
The carpet of glossostigma in the picture below is grown using 150w metal halides hung 2 feet above the tank.
Its also known as pearl weed.
It will carpet but the leaves are a totally different shape than dwarf baby tears hemianthus callitrichoides pictures below hemianthus micranthemoides giant baby tears pearlweed hm hemianthus callitrichoides dwarf baby tears hc hope that helps.
This method should work well for all mosses most grasses and most other carpet plants like hemianthus callitrichoides and glossostigma elatinoides.
Glosso will be a better choice if it is frst time trying.
But it does demonstrate that high light no co2 doesn t always translate into an automatic algae fest that is if the plants are growing well.
This light level is probably excessive.
Growing hc also need luck some can grow it without cold water but some with cold water also cannot make them flourish.
The emersed part will be misted and fogged regularly in the paludarium.
All fine in about a week or 2.
This video is of my little h.
Will hemianthus callitrichoides require co2 to carpet if a part of it is emersed.
I have grown hc emersed and submersed it it loses some of its leaves but doesn t take forever to grow back.
In the submersed form it looks almost same as an emersed form with cushion like growth or low carpet.
Another two weeks and i expect it will be covered.
Imo it s all about lighting and co2.
As for hc you will need high light and lower temp so that it will grow better.
I don t think emersed growth works as well for hairgrass in terms of getting a very thick coverage like with hc.
However i think the initial 1 month of being established when emersed helped a lot and prevented algae issues with the hairgrass.
Sometimes you can see the tiny white flowers in the axils.
It s almost tempted me to start a palaudarium.
Cuba has smaller leaves and a bit narrower.
